Montenegro is an attractive tourist destination from April to November. The coast line of the Adriatic Sea stretches here for 300 kilometers. In this southern country, summer comes in early May. It means that by the end of spring, the best beaches for a family vacation gladden with gold of warm sand, few tourists, and reasonable prices.
The weather is changeable in March. However, temperature rises with every passing day being +14°C on average. In April and May, the highest temperature is +25°C. Late in May, the sea near the southernmost towns – Ulcinj, Dobra Voda, and Budva – entices to start the beach season.
Why is the Montenegrin spring so spectacular?
Cities with ancient castles and great history; nature with alternating mountain, plain, and forest landscapes as well as sand and gravel beaches; orthodox monasteries with Christian relics; national holidays and festivals – all this is worth organizing an educational vacation to Montenegro in spring.
The Days of Camellia, Easter, and the Independence Day of Montenegro are all celebrated in spring. The flowers festival that is held in Kotor and Stoliv for two weeks in March really blows away. At the festival, the most skillful florists from all over the country rival each other in mastery of creating unique compositions from the most tender flower – camellia.
Tourist fairs are held in Budva each month and no one leaves the vibrant event without a Montenegrin souvenir. Joyful carnivals take place in Budva and Kotor during the Easter celebration in April. All the local residents and majority of tourists take part in them.
Those who will go on a vacation to Montenegro in spring 2016 and find themselves in the Bay of Kotor in May will be incredibly lucky to attend an exciting seamen holiday that is called ‘Shooting the Cock’. It symbolizes liberation of the Adriatic from the Turkish yoke.
While the Adriatic coast charms with colour diversity, ski resorts welcome tourists up to the end of April. In other words, you can ride a snowboard and go skiing combining sport with sunbathing.
Excursions in spring: advantageous and never-to-be-forgotten
30% of the whole territory of the country is allocated to national parks. Be sure that excursions to the places with the most beautiful natural landscapes in April – often comparable with landscapes of Switzerland – will stick in your memory with the pictures of blooming mimosa, camellia, fruit trees, and flowers. You have a chance to see the Niagara Falls in miniature not far from Podgorica only in spring. It dries up in summer…
Guided tours give zest to vacations in Montenegro particularly in spring. Are you asking why? Because it is rather inconvenient to go sightseeing to the Kotor Riviera under the scorching sun. Old streets of Bar, islands with famous castles and monasteries, amazing Kotor that is 2,000 years of age, ancient Cetinje, the Ostrog Monastery high up in the cliff – it is a short list of the places of interest you can visit in Montenegro in spring.
In spring, vacation in Montenegro will cost you by 20-40% less than in summer. Furthermore, those who visited the country bring to notice absence of ‘ant colonies’ of tourists at this time. It helps to relax and enjoy medieval architecture, clean beaches, fresh air, and kind attitude of local residents in quiet surrounding.
